Amarillo Independent School District

Families in Transition Intern

August - November 2020 • Amarillo, TX

What I liked

I loved working with families/students who were struggling with homelessness or in domestic violence situations. I loved giving them resources and support for their many needs. This agency has so many things to offer and I loved being a part of it. It was a rewarding experience and I learned so much that will help me in my future career.

What I wish was different

That my supervisor hadn't gotten Covid a week before the end of my internship. I wished we hadn't had to deal with Covid.

Advice

That you never know exactly what an agency does until you get in and work with them. I had no idea that AISD had a homeless liaison or that we even had this agency or support for our families in this district. Also, I had no idea about so many other agencies that they partner with in our community. I think my advice is that there is always so much to learn and never stop asking questions.
