Accounting Intern

December 2019 • Lowell, MA

What I liked

I liked how nice and easy going all the staff were! In the beginning, the work was extremely tough and was so different from what school has taught us. However, with this experience, I was able to gauge if this profession really was for me and if I could even make it in that field. Interning here gave me a very solid idea of what the everyday life of an accountant entails and I couldn’t be more grateful!

What I wish was different

I wish the firm allowed a bit more hand holding. Often times, I felt very lost in my work as I’ve never done anything like it before, and would feel extremely embarrassed to ask for help time after time again! It would be nice if there was direct supervision for the first few tasks we were assigned to do.

Advice

Going out in the accounting field is absolutely nothing like your university classes have taught you. It’s real. There are no more room for mistakes and the biggest advice I can give is for you to take notes. Take notes about everything you come across, because accounting is somewhat of a very repetitive task. If you have notes from what you did, you can always refer back to it instead of asking the same questions over and over again.
