Thermal R&D Co-op

June - December 2019 • Appleton, WI

What I liked

The company has a great culture, everyone is friendly and laid back while still being professional and productive. Even though I was in R&D I did have some interactions with the production side of the company.

What I wish was different

The company didn't do much in the way of helping the coops move into the area and find stuff to do. Anyone under 21 will have a hard time finding group activities in the area.

Advice

You'd be amazed at the problems and the depth of science that goes into the paper products we take for granted most of the time, have an open mind.

Scheduling Intern

July 2018 - October 2019 • Appleton, WI

What I liked

There was absolutely nothing i enjoyed while working here. Horrible Experience and a Year of my life i will never get back

What I wish was different

Everything! The Entire Experience was terrible

Advice

Don't allow interns to work here. Just one example of many was having to literally hunt down my supervisor to fill out one of the required evaluations, after numerous emails and in person conversations

Marketing Intern

April 2019 • Appleton, WI

What I liked

I liked being involved in important company meetings, creating collateral for products, being involved in product development, and working with the sales team.

What I wish was different

I wish i had more presentation opportunities and more primary research opportunities

Advice

I would tell the next person to remind themselves this job is at a B2B industry, which is different than what we learn at UW Oshkosh (mostly B2C industry knowledge), so not all info from college can be applicable. You will learn lots!

The people and the experience with marketing

What I liked

I like learning from so many different people in different fields that aren’t just in my department

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

A piece of advice I have is that with any internship you should put your all into it and try as many new things as you can. You never know what skill might help you in the long run

Summer Student Help

May - August 2018 • Appleton, WI

What I liked

The pay, no interview process, and getting to drive a forklift

What I wish was different

I wish the process to be able to ask off of work was simpler.

Advice

Be prepared to work 12 hour swing shifts and not everyone is going to be nice. Having a tough skin is recommended and be open minded to learning new things depending on the people your working with.

Carbonless and Specialty Papers R&D Co-op

June 2018 • Appleton, WI

What I liked

The people are fantastic and I've received many hands on research projects to test my abilities. I've been able to develop great professional skills and contacts. Position was able to suit my needs with flexible hours and location was hard to beat.

What I wish was different

A good deal of financial turmoil has gone on, so as much as I would love to build a career here, it's wise to keep one's options open.

Advice

Make sure to explore the area, and get to know your coworkers!
