Aramark

Retail Team Lead

June - July 2018 • Yosemite National Park, CA

What I liked

Yosemite was, without any hyperbole, the most beautiful place I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Everything from the never ending gorgeous scenery to the actual job experience was what I liked so much about it.

What I wish was different

I believe my superiors Were a mixture of old and new methods of managing a retail store. One of them was very staunch and ridged in his techniques, gave little opportunity for employees to grow on their own. However when another manager would come on the store would become less ridged and as a result morale went up and I believe the employees put more effort into their occupation because they didn’t hate the experience or feel as if they were walking on eggshells.

Advice

Taking a risk, traveling across country with some of your oldest for a job you might even hate, sounds irresponsible on paper, but when you find yourself organizing a team capable of pushing records for the store that took a risk and hired some kid from the other side of the country you’ll learn that this is something your capable of.

Food Service Worker

May 2018 • Auburn, AL

What I liked

Aramark was the new contractor that took over the Auburn Dining services in the summer. During the onboarding process, we discussed matching my current pay from the previous contractor even though I am a student worker, and it was over minimum wage. They kept their promise and I was happy about that.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be ready to do your absolute best at work and always go the extra mile when you can. Being nice to customers makes my experience working here worthwile, because the job is not burdensome due to the fact that my customers are happy!

Pool Lifeguard

May - August 2018 • Sol Duc Hot Springs, WA

What I liked

I got to live in Olympic National Park and spend all my free time hiking in the mountains and the rainforest, hanging out at the beach, or swimming and paddle boarding at a nearby lake. You got two days off a week and usually had your shift in the morning or afternoon which meant you always had half a day free as well. There was a really fun community of employees there because everyone lives together and becomes close.

What I wish was different

The management was lacking in my opinion, which can be stressful at times.

Advice

Be prepared to take advantage of all opportunities. You have a full summer to spend tons of time exploring the beautiful state of Washington. Try to bring a car if possible.

hostess

May - August 2018 • Gustavus, AK

What I liked

I loved being in the middle of nature. You work in a lodge that has an eight hour day boat tour to see the natural beauty of Glacier Bay and, of course, glaciers. My co-workers were amazing. I worked about 40 hours a week and on my weekends would go camping "up bay" (being dropped off by the day boat in to the woods). It is a small knit staff of about 50 people who become more like a family.
