Our Mission and Purpose
The Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy is committed to improving health, health equity, and the value of health care through practical, innovative, and evidence-based policy solutions. Through its health policy analysis and development, the Institute advances actionable and effective solutions to address the most daunting health care challenges. With programs in health policy education, research, and innovation, and in partnership with experts across Duke University and its health system, Duke-Margolis works to ensure that quality, equitable health care is accessible and affordable for everyone.

Our Approach
Our innovative research and education model leverages Duke’s unique and diverse academic resources, together with the collaboration of our expert research teams and policy maker networks to develop and advance evidence-based, actionable reforms and solutions. Our Institute researchers have technical expertise, extensive experience, and institutional knowledge on many major health policy questions and issues. These Institute capabilities enable policy-relevant, well-supported collaborations with the deep academic expertise of our affiliated faculty across Duke. Together, we advance these collaborative policy projects through our strong networks with policy makers and external partners, enabling us to inform and advance evidence-based policy and decision making

Our Work
Duke-Margolis has three strategic focus areas:
o Transform health care so it is more accessible, affordable, equitable, and high value
o Drive biomedical innovation to improve how drugs, devices, and other innovative technologies are developed, regulated, and used
o Educate the next generation of health care leaders with the interdisciplinary perspective to solve complex problems

• Our work across the Institute also provides guidance and strategic analysis on:
o Building public health and health care collaborations to improve population health and health care resilience
o Advancing health equity policy research and leadership aimed at significantly reducing health inequities
o Pursuing global health policy solutions to support health system transformation to achieve better population health
