About LEAP: Learn. Engage. Advocate. Partner.

LEAP was founded in 1971 (previously known as IVYP) in response to community need for programs to serve community children and families. LEAP celebrates the diversity of the ethnic and racial backgrounds represented in our community, and we do not discriminate against any child because of race, ethnic origin, religious affiliation or economic status.

As a non-profit organization, we provide a variety of services to our community through core programs such as; Children's Center and Family Resource Center.

Our Theory of Change

By building a resilient and connected community, LEAP seeks to mitigate the effects of poverty, racism, and trauma so that all children and families can prosper and thrive.

LEAP mitigates the effects of poverty, racism and trauma by providing high-quality, trauma informed child care; comprehensive, culturally sensitive family support; and visionary community leadership.

Teacher assistant

“It helped me to learn how to communicate with parents better, since I was working with infants who’s parents were very involved. I also learned more about teamwork, as this organization is short staffed and I needed to fill many positions. ”

“Really amazing and fun work environment! The kids are great and come from really diverse backgrounds. I loved my boss Juan Pimentel, he cares so much about the kids and his employees, and is a really great program director. It is a great way to learn more about the Isla Vista and Goleta community. It helped me know what it is like to work with kids, and affirmed that I do not want to be a teacher, but that I am open to working with kids in a clinical/counseling capacity.”
