What I liked

It has been great working on a team at a relatively new foundation where Wesleyan Campus team members and interns have a significant amount of agency to pursue meaningful projects. It was also a great opportunity to get advice and leadership from many of the remarkable board members.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we were presented with unique challenges on how to continue the work of the foundation as everyone went remote. I hope in the future to rekindle the in-person interactions that were missed this year.

Advice

Self-starting initiative is a vital part of the job, particularly since the foundation is in its early stages. As other interns have mentioned, feedback is also crucial to improving your impact while working with the foundation.

What I liked

I loved having the opportunity to talk with scholarship recipients and local entrepreneurs. I learned a lot about each respective community and expanded my network along the way. The Jaylen D. Berry Foundation Inc. is a growing non-profit organization and I loved being a part of expanding it.

What I wish was different

I wish the pandemic allowed for more in-person connections. We had a conference planned for the summer in Boston, however, it was canceled due to COVID-19.

Advice

Because the Jaylen D. Berry Foundation Inc. is currently in its early stages of growth, I definitely recommend any new members to give feedback. Feedback is great in any line of work but is especially important when an organization is building/expanding its infrastructure and creating brand visibility. If you have any ideas, please feel free to share!
