Karl Storz-Endoskope

Continuous Improvement Intern

May - August 2023 • Charlton, MA

What I liked

The best culture of any company I have worked for. Management cares about their employees, and actively works to give interns the best experience possible. We had almost weekly events where full time employees would give presentations on things such as public speaking skills or career advice. Sometimes they would just be social events to meet everyone. All of these came with a catered lunch. Also the highest paying job I have had yet.

What I wish was different

I would sometimes not have enough to do in the day. There were a few times where I would finish my work early and have to go seek out things to do. This was not all that bad however, since I never felt micro managed, and had the freedom to pursue other projects.

Advice

When interviewing for internships or jobs, pay attention to the interviewer. In the professional world, you are selling your time to your employer. When working in a poorly managed or "toxic" work environment, there can be a mental toll which can have a large, negative impact on your life you did not initially consider when weighing the time versus your compensation. Good employers will make you feel welcome, and treat you fairly. You will not view work as a chore, but rather an opportunity to use your brain and talents in a fulfilling way. You can often get a sense of the work environment through the interview process, and by asking questions at the end. I would come back to Karl Storz next summer, even if offered a higher salary at a different company, because I highly doubt I will find a better work environment anytime soon.

Accounting Intern

June - August 2020 • Charlton, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed working within their finance team and working on to group project and team building exercises.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more one on one training with their ERP system and learned more on how it operates.

Advice

I would go into any internship experience with you eyes and mind wide open and try to just gain as much experience within your industry as possible even if it doesn’t even necessarily relate directly back to your major.
