Welcome to National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)! NIEHS is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The mission of NIEHS is to discover how the environment affects people in order to promote healthier lives. As one of the largest research agencies dedicated to using environmental sciences to understand human disease and to improve human health, NIEHS fosters scientific learning and discovery and provides learning opportunities for all career stages.
A variety of research takes place at NIEHS and opportunities are available in many different research groups. There are several opportunities for undergraduates and recent graduates including the positions listed below:
NIEHS Summer Internship Program: 8-12 week internship program during the summer for current undergraduate and graduate students. NIEHS Scholars Connect Program (NSCP): Summer + academic year program for undergraduates. Specific program information is located here: https://www.niehs.nih.gov/careers/research/scholars/index.cfm Please contact Suchandra Bhattacharjee (NSCP Coordinator) or Ericka Reid (OSED/NSCP Director) at nscp@niehs.nih.gov for more information.
NIEHS Postbac Program- Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award (Postbac IRTA): 1-2-year training program for recent graduates who are interested in attending professional or graduate school after their fellowship. Specific program information is located here: https://www.niehs.nih.gov/careers/research/fellows/working/fellowships/postbacs/index.cfm Please contact Katy Hamilton (Postbac Program Manager) at hansen2@niehs.nih.gov for more information. The application can be found here: https://www.training.nih.gov/programs/postbac_irta and is available on a rolling basis. We recommend that you apply about six months prior to your anticipated fellowship start date.
