About Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center

Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center serves nine counties in northeastern and eastern Pennsylvania As a small, but mighty nonprofit we admit and treat over 3,000 injured and orphaned mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians, annually. We are the only rehabilitation center in Pennsylvania permitted to raise Black Bear cubs.

PWREC is a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitation and education center, located in the Poconos. Cherry Valley Wildlife Refuge nearly surrounds our 6.5 acre facility. Animal patients, foster parents, and education ambassadors reside at the facility. In 2023 we'll celebrate 40 years of rescuing wildlife.

“I loved assisting in the care and rehabilitation of wild animals. I learned how to detect injuries in new intakes, along with what is the best medicine to administer to them based on the injuries. In addition, this internship enabled me to gain the experience on how important native wildlife are to our ecosystems, which coincides with my major in Wildlife Conservation. Working at Pocono Wildlife Rehab and Education Center helped me gain interpersonal skills with the public, volunteers, and interns to ensure that the animals are treated for correctly and with the best care possible.”
