Flight Dispatcher and Corporate contract pilot

December 2016 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

The flexibility of working contract basis. As a contract pilot I get to choose the trips I want and days I want to work as well as planes I want to fly.

What I wish was different

It was difficult to get training for each plane beforehand.

Advice

Fly everything as much as possible. Different planes offer great ways to learn new skills and improve your flying skills. A pilot once told me that a pilot takes their skill level with them to the airlines and rarely improves past what they learn there. Flying different planes teaches you to be a better pilot. BUT Be selective over what and who you fly with as you are the only one looking out for you and your ticket.
