Marketing Operations Intern

May - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

QL puts on an AMAZING summer intern experience. Everyone loves the interns and treats them like they're team members and that they matter, not just interns. I had the opportunity to live in the city on Wayne's campus through QL and it was so much fun working and living in the city. It is a wonderful opportunity and opened huge doors for me!

What I wish was different

I wish that my team leader had been a little better at guiding me since most of the time I was making up the things I was working on myself. It was a real taste of the business world though!

Advice

Take on EVERY opportunity! Do not pass up anything. Come up with your own ideas and don't wait around to be told what to do. Talk to and network with as many people as possible. Ask TONS of questions and don't worry if people think your question is dumb. This is YOUR future we're talking about, so make the most of it!

Vendor Specialist

May - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I love how it was not a typical internship. We were able to enhance our skills, discover our strengths and weaknesses, explore different field outside of our major. There’s was something new everyday and it kept you on your toes.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to stay. Due to me returning to college I wasn’t able to shadow everyone but I still received some amazing advice.

Advice

Come with and open mind! This internship isn’t just an Internship it may be your new home away from home. It’s not just work all day they also make sure your well being is ok and they believe in fun at work. It’s a life changing experience.

Talent Development Intern

March 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I've loved the entire experience overall as getting directly into the field has been invaluable to properly starting my career with an HRD degree.

What I wish was different

There was little team interaction overall, but once I realized that the interaction wasn't built into the role, I pushed outside of my comfort zone to network across my team as well as the company overall.

Advice

Pushing yourself to be comfortable being uncomfortable is incredibly valuable as well as understanding that communication is critical in order to gain the most out of the internship experience as possible.

Talent Development Intern

I liked the autonomy of my internship. I had the opportunity to develop my own ideas into something the company and my team could use in the future. I also appreciated how often I was able to shadow people from other areas in the business. Quicken Loans has a great company culture that is very supportive of the people that work there. I truly enjoyed being part of the family atmosphere and getting to know so many incredible people.

Mortgage Operations Intern

May - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

The company culture and environment. It was very laid back yet still professional, and they emphasize that everyone has a voice and their ideas and opinions matter.

What I wish was different

In my team specifically there was not very many intern like projects since it was a production role. I wish this would've been different because I felt more like a temp than an intern.

Advice

I would say that with a job like this one, where you sit at a desk it is very easy to get bored but if you set little goals for yourself it makes it a lot more entertaining because you have a challenge. I would also talk to many people/employers on the phone everyday and it is important to not take things personal. You never know what kind of day someone is having, so if they are rude to you on the phone just be extra nice because maybe they are having a bad day.

Mortgage Banking sales

May - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I loved the opportunity of the program. Not only did I do my sales job, but the internship program allowed me to shadow other areas within the Rock Family of Companies, as well as attend fun events that familiarized the interns with the company, its leaders, and Detroit! I would not have traded my rewarding, fun, and learned experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been paid more as a mortgage banking sales intern. We were speaking with real clients and doing work that full-time employees do. Not only that, but we were getting trained on the mortgage process and took classes that had exams. We studied, worked hard, had a busy schedule (in comparison to other interns); I wish our pay would have reflected that.

Advice

Try everything, do everything. The Rock Family of Companies internship program offers so many opportunities to be immersed into what being a full-time employee is like and it is up to you to learn about it all. I'm thankful I got to shadow and attend the internship events I could because it opened my eyes to all that Quicken Loans has going on, how they live out their "isms" as a company, and how they are defying the corporate lifestyle we know today. I would totally go back to QL if they would have me.

Internships are learning experiences! By bringing a super positive attitude everyday and asking lots of questions, I learned so much and was able to make real contributions to the team.
