What I liked

Fun people to be around. We helped our fellow veterans in need.

What I wish was different

Wish the government and state would take better care of our wounded (physical and mental) veterans better so they could live better lives. It's unfortunate how many people dont understand how hard it is for us to through "normal" daily life, it's always a struggle for us.

Advice

Just be kind to one another and have an open mind about ideas, things, and people before you judge them for not living up to your standards.

Piano Teacher

May 2019 • Laie, HI

What I liked

I really enjoy the challenge of working with students of different levels. It allows me the opportunity to think of each student as an individual and prepare for them individually, rather than for a class as a group. Teaching private lessons gives me time to work one on one and form a personal relationship with each student. As I teach, I feel that I am able to learn more about myself as a pianist and improve as a musician.

What I wish was different

I wish that there were more opportunities within the community for children in the performing arts. It would be wonderful for them to have an opportunity to perform for others more frequently and also be able to participate in other music centered activities such as band, orchestra, or theater.

Advice

This experience came to me as I stepped out into the community and began personal networking. It has been so rewarding to work with children and families in the community, and this opportunity could not have been so wonderful if I had not taken that initial step. It is amazing how one connection in your network can often spur four or five more opportunities. I have come to see that a job well done leads to more jobs. When people are pleased with your service, they tell their friends and their neighbors and all of a sudden you have more phone calls and more people wanting to hire you.
