Enjoyed working with a small team to create multimedia marketing materials to promote programs within the school. Flexible work environment and direct supervisors are extremely understanding and supportive!

What I wish was different

I got to select some of the projects I got to work, which opened me up to working on a variety of digital assignments from: print design, digital design, photography, videography, photo archiving, etc.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

May 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The steep learning curve that enabled me to enhance my career and better understand how real physics research looks like

What I wish was different

I wish I had less computational work and we had a space to work with the other researchers rather than just work out of home.

Advice

Get research experience if you’re in STEM! It’s so helpful to understand what you do and don’t like about it because there are so many aspects to it. It helps you build a better relationship with your advisor too!

Housing Assistant

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I liked that I got to live in DC and also make money. They gave us free housing which was really nice.

What I wish was different

I wish the pay was a little higher and that the on-call shifts where at least paid half of our regular hourly wage.

Advice

The scheduling changes every week so it’s important to plan things out way ahead of time and that’s usually east because the schedule for the whole summer is given to you in the beginning.

Summer Assistant

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

It was a very relaxed atmosphere and I really enjoyed the other students and professional GW staff at summer housing. Some of the tasks are repetitive but no parts of the job were difficult. There is definitely a good amount of downtime and they buy you food pretty often, especially during orientation.

What I wish was different

Schedule is constantly changing from week to week. You work the same shift (5 hours - mine was 6pm-11pm) 4x a week but this could be any four days (including weekends). However, they do give your schedule for the entirety of the summer in the first week.

Advice

Work the PM shift! I did this two summers in a row and was able to work a full-time internship during the day.
