What I liked

The pay was good and I liked the people that I worked with. I appreciated the variety of what I did, particularly when I did order fulfillment and helped people with projects that they came in with.

What I wish was different

Rude customers made the job draining at times.

Advice

Asking for help is invaluable, especially to prevent injuries. n

order fulfillment

April 2019 - November 2021 • Colerain Township, OH

What I liked

I liked being able to walk around the store and work with my team members in order to complete our daily tasks. Asking for help from anyone is the best because almost everyone is ready to help.

What I wish was different

The management and their inability to acknowledge hard work from departments that are in the background. The lack of security in knowing you’re heard and seen.

Advice

Be aware that working as hard as you can and picking up the slack from others isn’t going to give you acknowledgement from anyone. Do things that make you proud, don’t try to please others who don’t even look your way. It can get lonely.

Cashier

March 2021 • Flagstaff, AZ

What I liked

I liked the interview process and the efficiency that it had. It was a quick easy and painless experience. When hired on too, the onboarding was easy and slow.

What I wish was different

The management I was getting involved with and how it has shaped the way work goes.

Advice

Dont be afraid to ask questions and dont be afraid to advocate for yourself in this job and every job. A company is not a company without its employees.

Cybersecurity Intern

May - July 2021 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I highly recommend doing an internship with The Home Depot. I had an amazing time working for the Third-Party Risk & Compliance Team as a Systems Engineer and the engagement was very high. Along with an intern partner, we met with our manager and mentor almost daily and they helped us learn the skills to succeed in the role. Alongside that, we had weekly mentor circles with 2 employees from other sides of the company to help us gain more professional development skills, had exposure to executive leadership in the company, and be a part of many activities to engage teamwork virtually.

What I wish was different

I never really had any issues, but mostly due to the fact I could count on my immediate leadership and partner for guidance and trust. I think what the overall internship program could have done is let interns meet each other prior, or have an intern partner they could be with so that they could keep in touch back and forth. The first day of the internship and it wouldn't have been as amazing without my intern partner going through it with me.

Advice

Take advantage and meet everyone...even if they are not a part of the intern program at the company! Everyone loves engaging with the interns, and this allowed us to build networks in different areas of the company. One specifically with a product manager for a whole different area, who gave me the most important piece of advice that would stick with me...and it is to speak up. No one can read your mind and no one knows unless you tell someone; whether it be looking for a promotion, speaking against something, or even your feelings towards something or someone.

Customer Service Representative

June 2020 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

Being in customer service has taught me how to remain professional in any situation. I learned a lot about teamwork and how to work different systems on the computer.

What I wish was different

Some of my coworkers did not do their best, despite having worked there longer than me. It took me a while to understand that not everyone has to cater to your feelings as a coworker.

Advice

Embracing difficult challenges and learning things quickly will help you and other coworkers. It is difficult to do your job well if other people constantly hold you back.

Sales Associate

December 2014 • Louisville, CO

What I liked

The scheduler was amazingly flexible for my school schedule, and the coworkers I had were amazing! They even brought me gifts for my birthday. Really amazing associates and great flexibility with scheduling.

What I wish was different

I wish the organization overall in the company was better. The managers could also be more associate-oriented rather than focusing solely on the numbers.

Advice

Make sure you clarify what you want your schedule to be as soon as possible so there isn't any confusion. Aside from that, do your job and all will be well. Another last piece of advice for any job, don't be afraid to befriend management; it will help you immensely.

Seasonal

June 2018 • Beaumont, CA

What I liked

The other employees and management were all really welcoming and helpful.

What I wish was different

The way orders are taken at the paint desk. It can a be a bit all over the place sometimes.

Advice

It makes you learn to hustle and prioritize because during rushes sometimes professionals order a lot of product and orders could still be flying in from D.I.Y. customers.

What I liked

I really like the working environment. Everybody is so helpful and nice. People care about each other.

What I wish was different

There is nothing much that should be changed besides the pay. Every associate that works at The Home Depot deserves slightly better pay for all of their hard work.

Advice

Sales

April 2020 • Lake Orion, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed working with my coworkers, and having something to do during a pandemic. I also appreciated that the company did its job to keep all of its employees safe. My store has only had one case of COVID-19, and we don't think they contracted it at work.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given more training in different departments, as sometimes I would be called to other areas of the store I wasn't as knowledgeable about.

Advice

Apply early! Hiring for my store stops in mid-April for the summer, so send applications during March and April.
