Math Grader
June 2018 • Denton, TX
What I liked
I love that I can grade on my own time and because this is my senior year, and I am not always on campus, I was able to talk to the professors that I grade for, and they are very flexible and understanding of my situation.
What I wish was different
Nothing, the professors and staff have been very understanding and helpful.
Advice
Pace yourself with grading. It's not hard but it can be very time consuming if you don't know what the professor expects or if you've never graded before.

College Teaching Assistant
January 2017 • Denton, TX
What I liked
I love working for someone who is willing to work with my schedule as much as I am willing to work with their schedule.Being a TA, you kind of have to be ready for a lot of last minute work. Sometimes it is hard to be a student and work at the same time, but my boss is completely understanding when I am cramming for exams or am swamped with school work. It's super convenient to have a job on campus because I can easily access both work and school.
What I wish was different
I have worked for a couple different professors in the marketing and logistics area of UNT. Some have been great and very understanding. My current professor, Professor Kuykendall, is by far the best I have worked for. However, I have worked for some professors that email me at 2 in the morning expecting me to be up and answering them when I have class the next day at 8. Some of these professors abuse the power they have and the help they have available to them. I wish professors would be more understanding of their employees needs.
Advice
Your time is just as valuable as everyone else's. Just because you are a student does not mean your time is less important than someone with a PhD. Communicate with your boss if you are feeling overwhelmed because most of the time they will work with you and come up with a plan to help you feel less stressed.

What I liked
What I wish was different
Advice
One piece of advice that I would share about this experience is to go into work every day with a positive attitude and ready to help others. I say that because this is a very student, staff, alumni & family oriented environment. We also always want to keep a professional and helpful environment for everyone on the UNT campuses.
