Theatre: Costume Designer

Located in the beautiful Adirondacks, Point O’Pines Camp for Girls is looking for a Costume Designer Lead to join our creative theatre team in our camp community.

The Costume Designer leads the visual identity and wardrobe components of the camp's performing arts program. This role focuses on creating imaginative, high-impact costumes for musical productions while guiding campers of all ages through the process of character building, design aesthetics, and technical garment construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, sketch, and execute original costume designs for camp musicals and plays, balancing creative flair with the practical needs of active performers.
  • Oversee the costumes, including sewing, altering, and repurposing existing inventory to fit campers of various sizes and ages.
  • Partner closely with the Theatre Director, Choreographer, and Set Designer to ensure the visual palette of the costumes aligns with the show's vision and movement requirements.
  • Organize and manage backstage dress rehearsals and show-day "quick changes," ensuring campers feel confident and prepared for their performances.
  • Support camp-wide events, themed evening activities, and other operational duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications & Physical Requirements

  • Prior experience in costume design, garment construction, or fashion design—preferably working with children or in a theatre/camp setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire young artists with patience and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced backstage environment and keep inventory organized.
