ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Chamber Music Northwest seeks two energetic, professional, detail-oriented Stage Managers. The two Stage Managers will work closely with one another and an Assistant Stage Manager, under the supervision of the Production Manager. Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Pre-Festival (Load-in)
- Prepare rehearsal and performance spaces including stage and office load-in, setting up chairs, stands, tables, and needed concert hall and performance equipment.
- Become familiar with festival staff and artist roster.
- Learn the complete production schedule, including when and where all public events will take place.
- Participate in all orientation activities.
During the Festival
- Assist festival staff with executing all production aspects of festival events.
- Open, prepare, maintain, clean up, and close all rehearsal and performance spaces as scheduled.
- Work directly with Production Manager, the second Stage Manager, and Assistant Stage Manager in preparing, setting up, and running all aspects of rehearsals and concerts.
- Act as assistant to artists during rehearsals and concerts.
- Coordinate between production and operations staff and artists during rehearsal and concerts.
- Ensure stage, backstage and greenroom areas are clean and safe, and secure.
- Run errands and purchase supplies for the festival as requested.
- Execute emergency procedures when necessary.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
The Stage Manager must be personable, poised, and professional. The position requires flexibility, reliability, limitless energy, and meticulous attention to detail. Occasional heavy lifting will be required and candidates should be capable of spending long days on their feet.
Additionally, the following are required:
- Previous stage management or production experience at a major festival, event, or presenting organization.
- Ability to work independently but integrate with a larger team.
- Sound discretion, tact, and decorum.
- Fluency in Google Workspace and Slack
- Ability to maintain a complex schedule of events and associated details (times, locations, artists, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable transportation to/from work
- Accessibility via cell phone and e-mail and availability during off-hours.
Strongly preferred qualifications:
- Previous experience show calling and executing stage changes for live music or theatre.
- Previous experience as an artist assistant or working with musicians at a live performance venue.
- Background or strong interest in the arts or classical music.
JOB CONDITIONS AND COMPENSATION
This Stage Manager role is a full-time, seasonal position. In addition to the full work term listed below, there may be additional orientations, training, and pre-Festival staff meetings in early June.
Contract Term: June 21–July 20, 2026
Summer Festival Dates: June 22–July 19, 2026
Working hours may be long and demanding and will include working nights and weekends. The Stage Manager must be available as many as six days a week during the Festival period, including occasional late night and early morning hours.
