Position Title: BOC Fellow (Orchestra Principal) – World Premiere Opera
Employment Type: Temporary / Fellowship (June 3 – June 6, 2026)
Location: Bloomington, Indiana (In-Person)
Compensation: Full Tuition Remission + Stipend (based on expertise and qualifications)
Job Description:
The Bloomington Opera Camp™ (BOC) is seeking nine advanced instrumentalists to join the creative team for the worldwide premiere of Seeking/Buscando El Dorado, a new community opera.
Following our premiere on June 6th, 2026, this opera will begin an international tour (for now secured with the overture). Selected instrumentalists will be appointed as BOC Fellows, receiving full tuition coverage and a stipend. This is not a student workshop—these are principal and section player positions in a professionally produced world premiere, offering a pivotal career credit and the opportunity to work closely with an award-winning international creative team.
Positions Available (9 openings):
- Orchestra Principals (2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Cello, 1 Bass, 1 Fl, 1 Ob, 1 Cl, 1 Fg)
- Perform in the world premiere on June 6, 2026 at the Bloomington Opera Camp™
- Potential to perform in future tour engagements
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Instrumental Performance (current master's students or degree-holders preferred)
- Advanced technical proficiency and significant orchestral experience (opera, ballet, or symphony repertoire)
- Ability to learn music quickly and collaborate in a professional ensemble setting
- Must be available for the full program: May 26 – June 6, 2026 in Bloomington, IN
Desired Skills (Not Required, but a Plus):
- Experience with new works or world premieres
- Interest in community-engaged artistry and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Experience with Latin American or contemporary repertoire
