24-25 Empire State Service Corps Intern/OFF CAMPUS PAID POSITION

SUNY is supporting students who have a desire to do good and make a difference through the Empire State Service Corps. Gain hands-on experience and serve your community through this paid internship. 


 

Participating students engage in paid work for 300 hours over the course of a year. This opportunity will allow you to engage in meaningful work that can provide lifelong skills and service to your community.


 

Assignments fall under one of the following categories:


 

  • K-12 Tutoring: Partner with local school districts for regular tutoring sessions to support recovery from pandemic-era learning loss.
  • SNAP and Basic Need Outreach: Serve on-campus supporting students with SNAP outreach as well as basic needs support (including shifts at the campus food pantry).
  • Peer Mental Health: Available on select campuses, students will be trained to serve as peer mental health counselors.
  • Sustainability: Serve in campus roles, with local nonprofits and with state agencies, on sustainability work such as recycling campaigns, tree planting, pollinator gardens, sustainability outreach.
  • Anti-Hate and Bias Prevention: Serve with local nonprofits focused on ending hate and bias in the community.
  • Civic Engagement: Serve with local nonprofits on civic engagement, including nonpartisan voter outreach.
  • FAFSA Completion: Serve in local communities, visit local high schools, and work on campus to support students in completing the FAFSA.
     

Specific position responsibilities will be dependent on the Empire State Service Corps Assignment. 

The Stony Brook Center for Service Learning and Community Service will help match you to your host site. Host sites may be located on-campus or off-campus in New York State.
 

Salary: $16 per hour

Part-time: 300 hours over the academic year (an average of 10 hours per week)
