Operations & Talent Management Internship 2025-2026
This internship through Stony Brook University's Career Center is an excellent opportunity for students interested in Talent Acquisition, and/or Operations Management to become more knowledgeable about corporate organizations/non-profit agencies and their recruitment/operations processes. Regardless of your major or the industry your future career will be in, the experience gained as an Operations and Talent Management (OTM) Intern can be applied across various industries including business, healthcare, IT, engineering, and more. The first semester is unpaid, and the second semester is paid based on performance.
These internships are open to students of all majors and backgrounds. Each role offers hands-on experience and the chance to develop skills that are valuable across any field, making them a great opportunity for anyone looking to grow professionally and expand their career readiness.
Students must commit to this internship for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, earning 6 credits (3 per semester) to fulfill EXP+.
General Responsibilities:
- Manage recruitment for the Career Center Internship Program through application of promotion, selection strategies, and interview process
- Increase the learning development of students/interns through presentations on various career development topics including Interviewing Skills, Accepting and declining Job Offers, Job and internship Search
- Collaborate within Career Communities to assist with the review, development, and promotion of experiential opportunities and industry-specific content (i.e researching international/ remote opportunities)
- Develop knowledge to effectively guide students through Handshake and CC resources and additional needs (ie. job & internship search strategies)
- Manage Handshake by approving and updating paid/unpaid positions while increasing industry knowledge and experiential offerings
- Assist CC staff in processing approvals of credit-bearing internships and developing recruitment activity reports as needed
- Participate in weekly training/learning development meetings to further professional and personal growth
- Obtain data about student and alumni experiential opportunities as needed
- Recommend constructive approaches, policies, and procedures to improve the efficiency of CC operations and services constantly
- Support Stony Brook University students with honesty, integrity, and personal ethics
- Assist with streamlining experiential learning platforms and programs offered by the career center to students
Learning Outcomes:
- Advance knowledge of employer recruitment processes and technicalities
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Career Center (CC), its mission, and its services
- Further knowledge of industries through Career Communities contributions and support (ie. promoting skill transferability & qualification insight)
- Cultivate strong interpersonal, communication & teamwork skills through various professional engagements including staff/intern collaborations, professional presentations, and coaching
- Enhance project and time management practices to deliver consistent, strong results
- Develop and display an understanding of professional work dynamics and professional etiquette
- Refine computer and database management skills through extensive use of Handshake, Google Apps (Calendar, Sheets, Slides, Docs), MS Office Suite, and Qualtrics
Prospective Projects:
Leadership:
- Be appointed to lead select OTM team projects (ie. recruitment, learning development, database management, and peer-to-peer support)
- Coordinated among the different teams in the CC to build new projects to assist students in interviews
- Assist with events throughout the academic year, including job fairs, employer panel presentations, recruiting/information sessions, orientations, workshops, and networking events (i.e producer for Zoom workshops)
Student Development:
- Conduct workshops/presentations on specific career-related topics
- Promote job/internships/experiential learning opportunities to different student demographics
- Create lists of internship opportunities for students in selected academic majors
- Communicate with students, supervisors, and faculty during the enrollment and throughout the program to ensure student success in completing the program in each academic semester
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2.5 GPA; Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status by Fall 2025 semester

- Proven demonstration of effective time management skills in a high-performance culture with a strong sense of customer service
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; Proven presentation ability

- Proficient MS Office skills and familiarity with Google Apps
