Marketing Internship 2025-2026
The Marketing Intern through Stony Brook University’s Career Center is responsible for developing marketing campaigns for Career Center services, resources, events, and fairs. The individual in this role will promote to students through a variety of channels, including social media platforms, email campaigns, high-traffic areas of campus, club and student organization outreach, and classroom presentations. The first semester is unpaid and the second semester is paid based on performance.
These internships are open to students of all majors and backgrounds. Each role offers hands-on experience and the chance to develop skills that are valuable across any field, making them a great opportunity for anyone looking to grow professionally and expand their career readiness.
Students must commit to this internship for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, earning 6 credits (3 per semester) to fulfill EXP+.
Responsibilities:
Market Strategy and Research:
- Research your assigned Career Community or Career Center focus and identify target audiences and develop strategies to best reach them
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns to promote Career Center events and initiatives in collaboration with Career Center staff members
- Collaborate with communications and graphic design interns to develop marketing materials to support all campaigns
- Maintain Career Center bulletin boards around campus with up to date marketing materials and current events
- Support major events-including job fairs throughout the academic year
- Bring innovative marketing ideas and strategies to the MarCom team
- Provide in-person marketing updates for Career Center staff at weekly staff meetings
- Conduct group presentation for Career Center staff and paraprofessionals on Marcom contributions
Digital Marketing:
- Create innovative promotional content and develop creative ways to promote Career Center events and services
- Manage social media platforms to effectively market events on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
- Produce Handshake emails on a consistent basis to promote events and services
Marketing Outreach:
- Distribute current event calendars and marketing materials to offices around campus
- Conduct outreach presentations/announcements to clubs, classes, and other groups on campus
- Represent the Career Center on campus and Career Center events, and community functions
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain valuable, real-world experience in the marketing and communications field
- Refine verbal and written communication skills
- Increase ability to understand and market to specific target audiences through research and strategic planning efforts
- Develop skills in creating marketing plans and learning how to report to staff members about the status of promotional efforts
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2.5 GPA; Sophomore, Junior or Senior status by Fall 2025 semester***Note: To be considered for this internship, please ensure that your cumulative GPA is reflected on your resume.***
- Experience in Adobe Photoshop and related programs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Availability to attend job fairs
- Ability to take criticism and willingness to take suggestions
- Flexibility and ability to manage time well and strive in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects on demand with a quick turnaround
- Must be able to work independently
