What exactly is the DPLN program?
DPLN is a competitive credit-bearing externship opportunity for under-served/underrepresented Stony Brook University students. Participation in the program is based on how well the student’s career interests and grades align with recruiting needs of employer partners. Students who are accepted into the program will earn 2 credits for EXT 488 or EXT 288 and the EXP+ Stony Brook Curriculum designation (1 credit through the fall 2025 semester, and 1 credit through the spring 2026 semester).
There are 3 components of the DPLN Program:
- Job & Internship Search Preparation: Provided by employer partners (including mentor) and Career Center staff
- Professional Development and Gaining Industry Knowledge: Provided by employer partners (including mentor)
- Reflection Journals & Other Assignments: Assigned by faculty sponsor and externship supervisor
Eligibility:
- You identify as a traditionally underrepresented or underserved student
- You must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5
- You must have a graduation date of May 2026 or later
- Attend a DPLN 2025-2026 Application Information Session
- You must be able to attend DPLN workshops / class on Fridays from 11:00am-1:00pm for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.
- Able to participate in the DPLN for the entire academic year 2025/2026
