A New Leaf

Digital Marketing Intern

January - May 2019 • Mesa, AZ

What I liked

The internship program is designed for college students looking to gain experience in their field of interest. A New Leaf does a really great job at having a balance between guiding the interns through their projects but simultaneously giving them a lot of leeway to learn on their own. A New Leaf gives each intern an educational budget that the intern can choose to spend on summits, books, or anything that could relate to expanding their knowledge related to their work for the internship. Working for a New Leaf is a unique experience that you cannot get elsewhere. Their mission is to better the lives of people in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, so you physically see the impact their programs have on the community that we live in. It is extremely inspiring and rewarding to work for A New Leaf and to help further their mission.

What I wish was different

Overall, I would not have changed much.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to be open and eager to learning new things. An internship is the perfect opportunity to explore different career paths before committing to a full-time job. If you are interested in something, tell the boss, "I would be interested in working on more of 'x' kinds of projects". Do not be afraid to put yourself out there!

Digital Marketing Intern

What I liked

I absolutely loved interning for A New Leaf. Not only was I given a lot of freedom to be creative and learn new things but I never felt scared about asking questions or for help. All the employees are so nice and welcoming and A New Leaf has so much impact in Maricopa County. I always felt like nothing I did was busy work and that the projects I had were something that were useful and helped the mission of A New Leaf. Seriously an amazing opportunity and feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

What I wish was different

Obviously getting a stipend isn't the most ideal payment however this is extremely common in non-profit internships (or many are non-paid) but because of the experience I had and things I learned this was easily overlooked.

Advice

Get to know as many people in the office as possible - they are all such nice people and care a lot about helping the community. Also! Work on Wednesdays if you can :)

Nonprofit Fundraising Intern

June - August 2019 • Mesa, AZ

What I liked

This was an amazing internship experience. I loved that I was able to do meaningful work as an intern and gain experience with website design, video clipping, donor welcome, and so much more. A New Leaf is an amazing organization in the community and I recommend this internship to students looking to gain experience in the nonprofit sector.

What I wish was different

I wished that I had been able to see more of the impact of the organization. I was able to visit a couple of the program sites and loved being able to do that.

Advice

I would say to come in with an open mind because there are a lot of learning opportunities with this internship.
