ABS Kids

Behavior Technician

June - August 2023 • Layton, UT

What I liked

I loved the fact that you get to meet some amazing children with autism. They grow on you fast!

What I wish was different

I wish training didn’t take so long, four weeks of working 20 hours or less. I wish new employees were assigned clients faster and were given a consistent schedule right after training. I went over a month without consistent work before I decided to quit because I couldn’t afford to wait any longer. I wish employees still got some kind of compensation when appointments are canceled by family members. I wish employees’ time and energy were valued and respected as much as those two things should be.

Advice

Don’t apply for this job if you are an adult with responsibilities and need a stable income. Appointments can be inconsistent and families can cancel at any time. Resulting in you having to frantically look for shifts to pick up to make up the difference. It adds unneeded stress onto a job that’s already energy consuming by nature.
