Chapters Team Intern

June - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The team was wonderful. All of my colleagues (full-time staff members and my fellow interns) were funny, helpful, and encouraging. Because of the size of the organization and their funding, the CEO said they typically do not give return offers, but to make up for that, all the staff is willing to help you in your professional life to the best of their ability. In addition, it was my first internship so it's interesting to see how an organization/non-profit operates. It was also interesting to see how the National office operates as someone who knows how an AM chapter is like

What I wish was different

The task could be very monotonous, so you might feel like you're not doing anything meaningful. Mostly administrative tasks (and this is not just in my dept but for interns in other depts too - data entry, Excel, emailing, inventory, packaging, mailing, etc.), which is not for everyone, although there might be time for you to proofread stuff, be a part of some preliminary planning, give your input at meetings, etc.

Advice

Get to know the staff members and what they're doing. Build the connection. Be proactive and willing to learn
