AGC of East Tennessee

glass engineering intern

May - August 2019 • Church Hill, TN

What I liked

I got to experience the good and bad of the hot end of flat glass manufacturing. Every day provided new and interesting challenges as I was introduced and included in the entire process from batch calculations, to batching, furnace operations, troubleshooting solutions to common problems, tin bath operations, thickness changes, troubleshooting annealing issues, and overseeing cutting operations.

What I wish was different

To have been informed on more of the post process thermal treatments since I was only given slight overview.

Advice

Internships are extremely important in showing you what you do and do not want to do. I had an incredible experience in a manufacturing plant when I thought I would absolutely never want to work in one. Experience tells you everything.
