AGI / An Ansys Company

Junior Developer

April - September 2020 • Exton, PA

What I liked

I really loved working at AGI. I was given interesting and challenging tasks to work on, which I found to be engaging and very fulfilling. There were loads of opportunities to grow as a developer and learn (i.e. from team members, trainings, pair-coding). Interns are usually given a final project during their time at AGI; on top of being a generally fun experience, it's a great time to showcase what you have learned/worked on during the internship, as well as an opportunity to take a lot of ownership over your work. The culture at AGI is really welcoming and family-like. My team, in particular, was very inclusive and fun to work with, and I really felt valued as a team member. It was easy to communicate with others, and I could approach anyone on the team with questions and there was always someone able to answer/provide further guidance for what I was working on.

What I wish was different

I only wish we weren't in the middle of a pandemic. The only issues I experienced were just typical remote work issues like occasional spotty connection or poor call quality, but it never impacted me much.

Advice

Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. There are lots of opportunities to try new things and you will get the most out of your internship if you come ready to learn.

Software Development Intern

June 2020 • Exton, PA

What I liked

I really enjoyed working at AGI - I was able to come into the office every day during the 2020 summer (everyone wore masks and there were policies and practices in place that made me feel very safe being there). Aside from being able to work on an impactful project with amazing mentors who supported me and helped me feel comfortable from the start, the people at AGI really made the experience there so great. It is like a family, and I loved being able to meet and have interesting conversations with any of the incredible employees who work there! I also really enjoyed being able to hear about other aspects of the business outside of software development, like marketing, sales and product management.

What I wish was different

Ideally, we wouldn't have been in the midst of a global pandemic!

Advice

There are many opportunities while working at AGI, and they make it very possible (and encourage you!) to take charge of your experience there and try out new things, so definitely do not be afraid to talk with anyone about your interests and reach out to find out about what is possible.

Junior Developer

May - September 2020 • Exton, PA

What I liked

At AGI I felt like I was really contributing to the projects I was working on. The company was super understanding when it came to any lack of experience and helped me grow my abilities in the fields I would be working in before assigning me big tasks. Very friendly work environment where I got to be a team member, not just an intern.

What I wish was different

There were a few dryspells where I didn't have as much to do, but overall the remote working was handled great and a majority of the time I had plenty to work on.

Advice

All my coworkers were incredibly helpful when I needed it. Getting stuck on something was never a problem for long because I always had someone to ask for help.
