Air Force Civilian Service - Contract Specialist

About Air Force Civilian Service - Contract Specialist

The United States Air Force mission is impressive: Fly, Fight and Win… in Air, Space, and Cyberspace. Fulfilling that mission requires the skills, talents, and commitment of more than 300,000 active duty Airmen. It also takes more than 180,000 civilians.

That's us – the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS). We don't wear uniforms or have military service obligations, but we do work side by side with active duty Airmen to provide every kind of support service needed to fulfill that Air Force mission.

We provide support in every profession imaginable:  scientists, engineers, contract specialists, teachers, intelligence experts, mechanics, human resources professionals, and much, much more.

The United States Air Force has requirements for everything from satellites, electronics, and high-performance aircraft to supplies and services necessary for the day-to-day operation of military installations around the world, with an annual budget of ~$140 billion dollars.

Contract Specialists are responsible for planning, negotiating, obligating, and administering the contracts for these purchases, with the end goal of obtaining the best technologies possible at a price that is fair and reasonable to both the defense contractor and the American taxpayer.

Aerospace Engineer Research Assistant

May 2022 - August 2022 Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
“I liked the teaching aspect that my mentor incorporated. He spent a lot of time teaching me processes and points about his job that he found useful and applicable. He also, along with others in the branch showed me resources on which I could use at home to learn further, such as OpenVSP ground school. The environment was very casual and laid back as you can tell the conceptual thought that was being put forward. ”
