What I liked

I really enjoyed working with my team of 4 workers. They were all very helpful to me during my internship and made me feel at home in such a short amount of time. I enjoyed coming to work every Tuesday and Friday because I knew that the assignments and projects I was working on made a real impact and difference. I came into the organization knowing very little about how non-profit organizations worked, and over the three months of working with Akilah, I learned how they market themselves and do business. This experience was life-changing because I never thought that an office job would be so fulfilling. I am very grateful for the experience and recommend Akilah to any student who is looking for an internship position.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, I began my internship just before the global pandemic hit the United States. I was able to finish my internship by working remotely from home and was able to attend meetings and work on projects like normal. Other than that, I can't come up with anything I wish could have been different.

Advice

I would tell any student who is considering a position at Akilah to go for it with an open mind. Be ready to learn about how non-profit organizations function and work on a day to day basis. Take as much as you can from the experience and make sure whatever work passes through you is done at 100% full effort. Also, do not be afraid to ask for a letter of recommendation from your supervisor and connect on Linked In!
