What I liked

I loved working outside with the Cattle and doing good hard work. I loved the people, the land, and the working environment.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I wish there had been more trees. Also a higher salary would have been nice.

Advice

Physical work is a good thing. Too few people experience it. Everyone should spend a summer sweating in the sun working the land.

What I liked

I was able to learn valuable skills from very knowable individuals. I got to ride horses most every day. I worked with wonderful people.

What I wish was different

I wish the pay was a little higher. I wish I had more variety of opportunities.

Advice

This is both a mentally and physically challenging position. It requires a great deal of mental concentration even in "down time."

Ranch Hand Intern

What I liked

Had a very unique experience, and probably something I'll never get to do again. I had the opportunity to go what seemed, back into the "Old West". I rode horses across the range a couple days a week, and got to work cattle. It was amazing being involved with the ranch and their research project with improving the range ecosystem. It was an amazing learning experience about a new ecosystem, and also getting to do something I've always dreamed of.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't have changed anything because it was such a unique experience.

Advice

One piece of advice I would have is be willing to put yourself out there, and be involved in something that you aren't sure if you are qualified for. I would never have imagined doing what I did all summer, but I got the experience of my life, and got to be involved in agriculture in a whole new way. It was the time of my life, and something I've always dreamed of.
