Allen Datagraph Systems (ADSI)

Mechanical Engineering Intern

June 2021 • Salem, NH

What I liked

ADSI has been a great first role out of college thus far. There is a small company feel, with a large output, something you don't see too often. The culture here at ADSI is amazing. Everyone here would go above and beyond for each other and you'll always feel like you're part of a team. Your work will be ever-evolving. There is always something else to work on here, and your time will be equally divided between different tasks.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship period was only one month in duration. I was hired as a full-time intern directly out of college, and I spent the first three months at ADSI with an intern salary for full-time work. It was a great learning experience for me, and ADSI uses the intern period as a way of seeing if the intern is a good fit for the company and vice versa.

Advice

On-the-job experience is much different than university learning. There is almost always a clear-cut, right or wrong answer in academia, although, in industry, this almost never occurs. You must learn to "find the sweet spot". You should never expect a "this is 100% right" or "this is 100% wrong" answer, as must find a happy medium that satisfies the project parameters.
