Allergan

Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

I learned valuable business skills and what it is like to work and adjust to an office. Working in an office was a bit of a wake up call since I never had that experience prior to the internship. In addition, I had the ability to attend a launch event and business planning for 2020. Seeing that in action was very valuable to see what the dynamic is like in the office when all branches are involved.

What I wish was different

The office was an adjustment as well as the work environment. Given that I interned at a pharmaceutical company, the rigid structure is expected.

Advice

Start your recruitment early. I was one of the lucky ones to utilize my personal network, however it is very rare to actually be successful in that event and follow through with it. Start early!!!

Business Technology Intern

June - August 2019 • Madison, NJ

What I liked

Working for such a large company taught me how departments work well with one another. My department bridged the gap between the technology departments and the business departments. The structure of the internship, in general, was very well done too. We had team events, guest speakers and employee usage of the whole facility.

What I wish was different

I wish Allergan was able to extend internships or full time offers after the internship ended.

Advice

I would recommend that you look outwards of your department to make connections throughout the company. Pharma is an industry where you run into the same people often (even when they switch companies) so keeping good relationships is a must and could even lead to a new career in a different company.

Regulatory Affairs Intern

July - August 2019 • Madison, NJ

What I liked

I really enjoyed the entire experience. It was my first time in the corporate world and I really enjoyed combining my science background with business.

What I wish was different

I wish that this experience could have lasted longer.

Advice

Do not hesitate to network and talk with everyone that you meet.

Engineering Technician Intern

June 2019 • Branchburg, NJ

What I liked

My team was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I was offered many different opportunities to work for other departments and gain a breadth of knowledge and experience.

Advice

This applies to any internship, not just this one: if someone offers you the chance to work on a different team or project, absolutely take it. Worst-case, you discover that it does not interest you. Best-case, you really enjoy it, you gain a more diverse breadth of experience and knowledge, and you forge connections to expand your network.
