Alliance For Sustainability

SHE Kindness Intern

July 2021 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

Working as an Alliance of Sustainability intern was an amazing opportunity. During my internship, I focused on partnership outreach, newsletter content production, and educational campaigns. There are many teams to be a part of, such as the SHE Kindness School Program, policy, and development, social media, etc. I particularly enjoyed the amount of creativity and innovation we had in our work. Interns have many opportunities to pursue their interests, and bring forth new projects they wish to lead.

What I wish was different

Advice

I would advise getting involved with all aspects of the Alliance. While you select which teams to be a part of, it is also good to learn about projects other teams are doing. Additionally, seek out feedback from others. Find out your strengths and weakness and how you can improve. Terry gives great suggestions and truly cares about your growth on the team.

What I liked

I liked how much flexibility and creativity we were allowed to bring to our work. They let us choose what we were most interested in working on so that we could get the most out of our internship.

What I wish was different

I wish I had participated a bit more in the policy side of the non-profit. I decided to focus on social media, communications, and blog-writing, but if I had more time I would like to learn about policy initiatives.

Advice

I would advise to just get as involved as you can because you really get out of it what you put in. The organization has a lot of different areas of impact and the president, Terry, has a lot of good connections and advice if you want any further guidance!
