Sales Associate Intern

May - August 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I loved (and hated) that I was taken completely out of my comfort zone every day. I dealt with angry residents multiple times a week and had to maintain my composure, being professional and kind at all times. Entrada Apartments is in a difficult location in East Village with a high homeless population and major crime issues. On top of that, our building was under construction the entire summer, so I had to find a way to make the apartments seem more desirable to be able to reach our goal of six leases per week. I had some very difficult conversations with all kinds of people who came into the office, and I had to work with many residents who were upset about a variety of things. Twice a week, my manager and assistant manager were not in the office, so I was left to run the entire office by myself for 8 hours. As an introvert, I was completely taken out of my comfort zone and forced to do all the social, conversational things that I do not like. It was an extremely challenging summer, and I had to really push myself to complete the internship to the best of my ability. That being said, I highly recommend this type of internship. It is challenging, and some days really sucked, but I grew so much from the experience. My coworkers and I became close friends, supporting each other on the difficult days and sharing stories about the crazy conversations and experiences we had each week.

What I wish was different

I wish my commute was shorter. I had to drive an hour each way every day, so I was pretty worn out by the end of each day.

Advice

I highly recommend doing an internship, but do not choose one that seems easy. Choose something that makes you uncomfortable (and that you kind of hate), and I promise you will grow exponentially. It's also a good idea to do some research on the company's culture too before deciding on an internship; if you like the people you work with, they will be your best friends during the most challenging days.

Marketing and sales

May - August 2019 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the experience of working in an office while also being able to do work outside the office environment.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to see more of what the business manager role did while I was there.

Advice

I would recommend everyone to go into each new experience with an open mind, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this internship but I learned a lot of useful interpersonal skills I will be able to apply to future endeavors.

Real Estate Sales Intern

May - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I enjoyed working with a team of leasing agents. It gave me experience in not only the sales industry but the real estate industry as well.

What I wish was different

I wish my position would have been more difficult. I wish i would have been given some projects that fit into the financial side of real estate as well.

Advice

My advice is this is a good way to enter into real estate. It's defiantly a entry level position but I think i had a great experience and it is a good way to transition into the real estate world.
