What I liked

Extensive learning opportunities through online coursework, conference calls, meetings, and other applicable work within the insurance industry. These resources assisted in my ability to understand and apply critical thinking skills into the work at hand, along with a better understanding of corporate language.

What I wish was different

Hands on work is one method in which I learn faster, so I could’ve seen more physical documents being helping in the process of learning along with the online systems that were implemented for efficiency. Lastly, I would’ve liked to have had more checkpoint meetings to track progress and move effectively into the next area of learning.

Advice

Definitely take advantage of making connections with peers in the corporate world and in your environment because those connections will follow you no matter your scholastic focus. Be hands on, ask questions constantly because that is appreciated and you learn more, and take pride in the coursework provided because though it may seem simple one can learn so much academically thus translating into critically thinking during the completion of other tasks.

What I liked

I was able to learn software systems like Epic that are used broadly across the market. I could use applications like Excel in real business scenarios and learned the basics of the Insurance business.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more opportunities to meet people in the different departments of the Insurance group to understand their role in the company and what their job entails.

Advice

Even in industries like insurance that may seem boring or monotonous, you can find fields of that industry that focus on your interests. For me, I worked with renewable energy insurance wherein renewable energy is an interest of mine in an increasingly deteriorating world.
