Allison Transmission

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

May - August 2023 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

Growing up, I always like manufacturing throughout high school and college, so this was right down my lane! Along with that, it was reassuring to see everything you learn in school about manufacturing in practice at Allison. Projects are very meaningful also, as you get to see people like the operators and managers use them or ask you about them. Pay is also phenomenal for my first engineering internship. I also loved the plenty of walking I got from walking around campus.

What I wish was different

The first three weeks were pretty slow but soon picked up. Most of the reason they were slow was because it would take days if not weeks to get people to help on the EGen Flex line with everything being unionized. I wish I asked for more work!

Advice

Allison has a great culture and reputation so if you're able to get an internship here, I would absolutely take the offer. Also, MEET everyone. Everybody here is very unique and knowledgeable and networking with my graduates of my school has been a nice experience.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

The projects they gave me were both extremely educational, but also important to the company. The projects that did not get finished, were picked up by full-time engineers to be completed. Everyone was very willing to help if you approached them, but they didn't watch over your shoulder. On top of that, I was able to gain a lot of professional experience by conducting meetings, and giving presentations over the progress of my projects. The internship was organized with many planned events to expose us to different parts of the company, including a meet and greet with the executives, parts familiarization class, transmission audit/teardown, and many other opportunities to explore the company via your boss, coworkers, or mentor.

Advice

If you have the opportunity to intern or co-op at Allison, I would take it.
