Financial Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Merrick, NY

What I liked

The position I held was very enjoyable for me this past summer. I enjoyed walking into the office to a welcoming staff who made every day a learning experience for me. These individuals were always helpful as I was then able to reciprocate that help down the road. The most satisfying aspect of this position was waking up every morning dressed professionally and gathering a paycheck every Friday morning. The experience itself was priceless and I believe that I couldn't trade my circumstances at the time for anything better.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had began working for the company earlier on in the summer. I had been interviewing and applying for 4-5 months prior to this occurring. It was very challenging and frustrating at first to lock something in whether it was New York city or Long Island I was out of work for several weeks in frustration from not achieving my goal of holding an intern position, but I must say in due time it was most certainly worth the wait. Therefore, I would again say beginning at the first or second week I had been home from school would have been greatly beneficial.

Advice

One piece of advice I would like to share is that students applying to internships and even full time positions in the corporate world must understand that even you believe you're the perfect candidate for the job there is a high chance you may not get the job. My sincere advice is to always keep your head high despite the outcome of your interviews and continue to search. There will be times when you are discouraged. I was down for weeks about not holding a position earlier on in the summer, but I never gave up because I knew I had to accomplish my goal.
