Physical Therapy Aide Internship

September 2020 • Alpine, UT

What I liked

I really enjoyed being able to learn hands on the skills of Physical Therapy. At the Internship also I also learned many aspects of the business and how to best run it. My favorite part was probably having the personal interaction with real patients!

What I wish was different

Naturally, I wish it was a paid internship. I do not think I could have gotten the experience anywhere else though and that was amazing.

Advice

The one piece of advice that I would share is to find something that you love to learn about. Life is all about learning.

Alpine Fitness Personal Training Intern

August 2020 • Alpine, UT

What I liked

I loved the hands on experience we gained. From day 1 they had us shadowing their personal trainers with actual clients. After we had acquired so many hours we were put in charge of designing exercise programs and training clients ourselves. The instruction and training I have received at Alpine will benefit me the rest of my professional career.

What I wish was different

The trainers were very busy, understandably, with clients and other interns. Sometimes it was difficult to schedule time with the trainers to help you pass off the different skills needed to be ready for evaluations and clients without staying after hours to catch them.

Advice

You need to ask questions and for help in order to succeed. You cannot expect others to make sure you are getting what you need to thrive. With the right mindset, work ethic, and a little humility you will get a ton of useful knowledge and skills from this internship.

Certified Personal Trainer

May - July 2019 • Alpine, UT

What I liked

I got to do hands on stuff with actual clients, hadn’t my own clients for training!

What I wish was different

Some of the info was a bit outdated.

Advice

Get involved, always ask questions! The more questions you ask the better you learn.

Physical Therapy Aide Internship

January - May 2017 • Alpine, UT

What I liked

I loved all of the hands on experience I earned from this internship. I was able to work with other interns, the physical therapist, Paul, and patients as well. There were a couple skills you had to pass off, but they were easy and I was able to pass them with flying colors.

Exercise Specialist

May - August 2018 • Alpine, UT

What I liked

I got a good feel for the physical therapy profession. I learned, then taught my fellow interns, manual therapy techniques, modalities (electrical stimulation, ultrasound, etc), how to evaluate new patients (measuring rang of motion, testing muscle strength, etc), how to write doctor's notes, basic business practices, and customer service as well as day-to-day operations at their gym above the PT clinic. I was able to get hands-on experience working with patients (which you can't find in any other PT internship in Utah).

What I wish was different

Although I gained hands-on experience with real patients, I realized by the end that I could have taken advantage of even more opportunities for that precious patient interaction.

Advice

There is no other internship that will prepare you as well for PT school. You will get a stellar letter of recommendation if you put in the work and try your best. Take advantage of any leadership opportunities as well as personal training experience since you will be directing patients in their exercises as a physical therapist. I would recommend this internship even if you are planning to go to medical school. A med school hopeful who was hired after his internship has worked there for over 3 years and gained invaluable experience .
