What I liked

There are really great people at Altman Solon, and everyone is willing to lend a helping hand. The office is a nice place to be and there is no strong hierarchy in place, which makes working with a lot of different people extremely accessible to young professionals. You also learn alot about TMT which can be completely different from what you did in college. I personally had few touch points with technology and telecommunication before working here, but was still able to fully participate and pick up a lot of new tidbits around TMT.

What I wish was different

Occasionally, work hours can be long (as in any consulting job). While there is support for work-life-balance, taking advantage of these resources can be difficult. More mentoring on how to balance work and life would have been helpful in this case.

Advice

Definitely speak up when you have a thought or question. Everyone's voices are valued and I wish I had taken advantage of this opportunity more.

What I liked

Flat hierarchy, minimal to no travel, good pay, great culture. Company is small enough that you get to know everyone fairly quickly. AV&Co. is the #1 TMT strategy consulting firm in North America, so I'm able to deliver high quality work while delving into in-depth quantitative analyses. You're also given strong ownership of your workstream from the start, which contributes to the understanding that everyone is doing high-quality work and pulling their weight on the team.

What I wish was different

Same issues as any other consulting firm -- long, variable hours that make it hard to plan anything during the week (even going to the gym). They do a good job of prioritizing things you have coming up outside of work as long as you tell them in advance, though

Advice

Work hard and ask questions -- as long as you're engaged, you'll be a valued member of the team!
