Environmental Safety

May - July 2022 • Teterboro, NJ

What I liked

Fast role to learn. Lots of physical activity. Access to a branch of different fields to learn in spare time if thinking about changing roles and sectors

What I wish was different

That this was an established internship experience beforehand. There were a lot of hiccups and miscommunications.

Advice

Just because it says engineering majors are encouraged to apply doesn't mean you shouldn't look into the role or consider other options. This was a fake out in terms of expectations and work environment. I'd say Amazon is a predatory employer when they attach these labels to a role. This did not correspond to engineering in any way.

Warehouse Associate

May - July 2022 • Raleigh, NC

What I liked

I loved the consistency of the job and the fact that every night when I came to work I knew what my responsibilities were. I enjoyed the versatility of the job and how I could serve in different roles depending on the workload for a specific shift and what was needed.

What I wish was different

The majority of the work as an Amazon Associate is done individually, I would've also enjoyed working together with others as part of a team.

Advice

My experience working at Amazon was short because I had a plan for my time there. A piece of advice I have is to be consistent in your work and have a mindset of being open to learning.

Package Handler

February - June 2022 • Vacaville, CA

What I liked

They had extremely flexible hours and allowed me to take volunteer time off almost any day of my choosing. Additionally, they are very big on safety and ensures their employees don’t be put in any danger

What I wish was different

There’s many different roles and positions within the warehouse, so I do wish I got to pick which specific one I wanted rather than being assigned to one each day

Advice

Everything is explained clearly and if one of the positions is causing you pain or is too difficult, communicate with them and they will switch your role.

Change to manage and learn about warehouse logistics

What I wish was different

Wish I was able to take on more responsibility but the chain of command seems to have issues in order to make that happen.

Human Resources Intern

May - July 2022 • Davenport, FL

What I liked

Amazon provides interns the opportunity to fully experience the responsibilities that come with the role. As part of the internship experience, Amazon has all interns work on a summer long project that impacts the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to meet other interns in person. We had a lot of online meetings to connect with other interns but having an in-person meeting with other interns could have helped interns feel connected.

Advice

Always try to find a solution yourself before asking your managers or teammates.

Area Manager Intern

June - August 2022 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

- Structure and set-up of the Internship Program. - Management and Senior Leadership at my site. - Mixture of learning life as a Warehouse Associate and learning how to be an Area Manager.

What I wish was different

Really the only issue I had with it was there seemed to be a lot of miscommunication between the Amazon Intern Team in Seattle and all of the FCs/General Managers of sites. Everyone was always a little confused and did not know exactly what would come next or how exactly a certain process was supposed to work because every site was different, and Senior Leadership doesn't have the time to contact Corporate. For this reason, the only issue was a miscommunication.

Advice

It's what you make it. If you feel like you aren't getting enough work and having enough of experience, speak up to Management. They appreciate feedback and really do emphasize the "open door" culture.

I wish it had been in San Diego as opposed to Oxnard

I think if anyone were to do this internship, it is important for them to understand the culture of the company. You have to be motivated and determined. Involve yourself and don't ask for permission (be a self-starter).

Loved working for a company like Amazon that has a huge network and a lot of opportunity. I also worked with product launch which exposed me to a lot of new and interesting concepts
