Computer Systems Software Engineer

May - August 2021 • Boulder, CO

What I liked

They had many people around the clock helping you out and there was always a problem to solve. You get to meet many people from a variety of departments and learn the inner workings of what life is like working at a bigger company like this.

What I wish was different

I wish I had went out of my way a little more to try to meet more people like more interns even thought we were put on our own tasks.

Advice

Go for it!! Whatever you want to do in any internship you look for, go for it!! Nothing can hurt when you seek to achieve your dream to be a part of a company. Remember to remain humble and respectful as they let you into their community so embrace their culture, learn, and be nice.

Sophomore Area Manager

June - August 2021 • Toledo, OH

What I liked

I was able to get a headstart in building my professional development in the business world before I was in my major-specific classes. It was a great opportunity to not only get my foot in the door with Amazon but also allowed me to go outside of my comfort zone as I was relocated to Ohio. Finally, the experience of managing roughly 3,000 employees and ensuring successful operations showed me I have the ability to lead and succeed in these situations.

What I wish was different

The framework of the internship was not the best defined. This was also a benefit though because I was able to take this internship and have control over what I was focusing on and really trying to get out of it. However, a better defined first few weeks would make it easier to transfer into a work environment.

Advice

100% worth the opportunity especially for the summer before you start your first semester at Eller. other huge benefits included Amazon covering all transportation, housing, and rental car expenses for the entire internship.

Hardware Engineer Intern

May - August 2021 • Sunnyvale, CA

What I liked

The team is very supportive of and works to foster your base engineering skills. The internship was hybrid they made sure to give me lots of exposure to the lab equipment. It was very easy to set up a meeting with anyone in the company and you are able to connect with people outside of your immediate team.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was given a little more structure when introduced to my project. They explained my project in greater detail as my time went on but it resulted in a slower start on my project.

Advice

If you are offered the chance it is a great position to learn and grow as an engineering student. There are a lot of great minds to give advice.

Operations Manager Intern

June - August 2021 • Kent, WA

What I liked

I enjoyed how welcoming of an environment there was from the first day I started. I felt that I grew and learned a lot about the fundamentals of the operations industry and Amazon as a company. I also liked how I formed a lot of relationships from this internship as well.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was more of a structure to the internship experience. I felt that I wasn't guided as an intern and that we were often left in the dark to figure out what was needing to get done.

Advice

Make sure that you have a manager/mentor you'll be working with consistently throughout the duration of your internship.

Picker

October 2020 • Chattanooga, TN

What I liked

The ease of the job, the structured nature and the proximity to my home.

What I wish was different

There were more opportunities to find a job relevant to my degree within Amazon. Trying to use the in-house job system to search for jobs is difficult. Additionally, trying to talk to management to find a person who could help me find a job related to my degree has been fruitless.

Advice

This job is decent enough for spending money while you work through college, but it is certainly not a career.
