Amcor Rigid Plastics

Indirect Procurement Intern

May - August 2018 • Ann Arbor, MI

What I liked

I was able to experience a wide array of projects. These ranged from conducting data analytics on 12 months of historical spend to creating the first RFP for MRO items in the company's bidding software. My work contributed to the bottom line of the company. I found an opportunity for over a half million dollars in savings, I lead team meetings, I contributed results to the team for critical decisions. I was also able to meet and communicate with upper-level management in my team. I even got a chance to have one to one meetings with the CPO. Lastly, I got to observe and experience two retirements and a billion dollar acquisition.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to find this position a lot sooner through CMU. I got really lucky because the company's hiring process got delayed which allowed me to schedule a last minute interview after if found their job posting. If I did not start looking into other sources, I would have missed an amazing experience.

Advice

My advice is that you should always be looking for different career options when looking for an internship or a full-time job. I was set on a couple companies within a specific industry when I should have expanded my horizons. Since I decided to go out of my comfort zone, I was able to achieve a significant level of professional growth. Also, do not be afraid to reach out to professors or on-campus resources to figure out what you want do and where you could go.
