One piece of advice I would share is to take care of your physical and mental health during your internship. It can get very difficult at times, and learning how to cope and handle the stress is important.

Health Systems Intern

May - August 2017 • Tucson, AZ

What I liked

I really enjoyed being able to inform cancer patients and their families on the free services that the Cancer society offers. Also, it was great experience being able to give presentations to medical professionals.

What I wish was different

Since I interned during the summer there were very little events going on. I would have liked to have been able to experience one of their events.

Advice

This internship will require you to interact with people, especially cancer patients. You must make sure to be considerate of their circumstances. Also, take the initiative to ask either the nurses or employees of the Cancer Society if there is anything you can do to help them.

Social Media Intern

June 2018 • Manasquan, NJ

What I liked

It was an amazing experience because my family has been touched by cancer and it was an honor to give back to the community on behalf of my grandfather. He recently passed this summer due to liver cancer. I liked that I was able to help out at a survivors kick off dinner this august.

What I wish was different

I wish I could of been able to help more this summer but I had to stop because my grandfather passed. However I plan to continue to help them over winter break.

Advice

I would recommend anyone that is needing an internship to help with a nonprofit organization; it is definitely worth it!
