Ameriprise Financial

Financial Planning Intern

July - October 2022 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I like that I work in a franchisee where the relationships are personal and I am not just a number trying to climb the corporate ladder.

What I wish was different

I wish that I have opportunities to meet other peers or professionals in my field. I am the only one of my kind in my office (the only intern).

Advice

The platforms you will be introduced to at Ameriprise can be very intricate and asks for many hours of practice. The virtual training videos/SOPs provided by them are more overwhelming than helpful, so it's best to ask a person when you need a specific task done.

Financial Advisor Intern

May - September 2019 • Byron Center, MI

What I liked

I liked the actual experience of what it is like being a Financial Advisor, rather than just learning about it in the classroom.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to do more of the Financial Advising work, but most of it you need to be licensed. So, everything I did was as close to being licensed as possible.

Advice

I would like to share that there is tons of marketing and market trend analysis involved in a Financial Advisor role.

Client Service Coordinator

May - August 2019 • Las Vegas, NV

What I liked

They treated us like the full time employees, paid for me to get Series 7 certified. They also fed us on many occasions and had fun activities for us to do.

What I wish was different

Some of the workshops were kind of boring but I have no actual complaints.

Advice

Study hard for the Series 7 exam. Getting it elsewhere is going to cost you a lot more time and money. Also, have fun on the job because it’s a learning experience.

Private Wealth Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

It was a small office with only 8 employees so I had a good amount of responsibility. The culture was, for the most part, fun and stress-free. I had a few side projects which were very interesting too.

What I wish was different

It was a freshman year internship so I knew it was going to be like this but the work became somewhat monotonous as the summer went on. I wish the work had been a little more varying, challenging, and high paced.

Advice

Just work hard but have fun while doing it. They work itself isn't that challenging, so getting it done well and quickly are the main keys.
