AMETEK Haydon Kerk Pittman

Manufacturing Intern

June - August 2022 • Waterbury, CT

What I liked

While working there, I was consistently impressed by and pleased with the level of organization of tools, materials, and documentation. During my time spent as an intern, I was able to work within multiple sub-assembly areas of the production floor. I was instructed on how to use certain equipment and documentation processes within each new area of production, but then had a fair amount of flexibility as time went on. This flexibility allowed me to troubleshoot as necessary, and learn more about the motors being built. There was also a great sense of camaraderie with my fellow interns! We had some fun events and lunches provided by the company.

What I wish was different

Although I was only able to participate for part of the summer, I wish I could learn from and explore even more of the processes taking place!

Advice

Basic knowledge of hand tools and how to interpret parts schematics was very helpful to me. The concepts introduced by ENGR-1400 (Engineering Communications) or ENGR-1200 (Engineering Graphics and CAD) would go a long way.
