What I liked

Getting to interact with people who need resources on saving money on energy bills, and helping direct them the best way possible.

What I wish was different

I would have had an idea of what I was signing up for, and maybe be assigned to another site to mesh with the experience. Very much a position the site needs someone to fill for 10-20ish hours a week, not recommended for full time.

Advice

This is one of the more flexible with vehicle/ transportation options for ampact in my experience. If signing up for an ampact position must consider driving capabilities! Office and outreach work here, working on materials as well as presenting materials to lower-income individuals and for those who need the help!

Sustainability Project Coordinador

What I liked

This is my dream job. It has somewhat adjustable hours, is upbeat and fast paced, and the people are great.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more organization within my site structure.

Advice

Each site supervisor and site team are very different, but it is an amazing experience if you’ve selected the correct position within Ampact.

Public Health Project Coordinator

What I liked

I've been able to work on a variety of local public health projects, gaining skills in workforce development, project management, literature research, ethics policies, and training. I've also learned about topics such as policy development, grants, and contracts, even if I can't be directly involved in the process. The staff at both Ampact and the City of Bloomington are exceptionally friendly and helpful; they want to see you learn and succeed!

What I wish was different

Advice

Be prepared to learn. There's a lot of information to take in at first, but you'll get a solid grasp on it soon enough. Expect the first several weeks to be front-loaded with both Ampact and on-site training, then a more quiet period after that as you get onboarded with your projects for the year. Take advantage of as many trainings, learning sessions, conferences, etc. as allowed. If there's work you're interested in participating in, don't hesitate to ask!

I liked the flexibility of the position in how I was able to work with my schedule. I also liked that I was able to try a variety of different things and that I gained valuable work experience.
