Advice

Don't go if you can't handle conflict, or keep boundaries. It is not easy but very rewarding. You need to be as tough as this job is.

Behavior Health Paraprofesional (Trailwalker)

June - August 2019 • Mesa, AZ

What I liked

I love the Anasazi way.- the philosophy that guides how the program is run. I learned so much about how to interact with and love people. I loved being immersed in the wilderness, and I loved the youngwalkers (patients) and all their craziness with all my heart.

What I wish was different

I wish I had longer to work there!

Advice

It's so hard. Learn about managing your own emotional responses to the hard things that the kids go through so that you don't get too worn out emotionally. For me that meant practicing mindfulness and taking some alone time throughout the week when possible.

Some of the communication between office and trail was slow or ineffective.

Advice

I would advise the potential employer to recognize, this is the industry of Behavioral Health & Outdoor Wilderness Therapy...but in reality, were in the Industry of saving lives and uniting families.
