Learning and Development Embark Intern

January - August 2023 • Williamstown, KY

What I liked

I loved the Christian atmosphere, the apologetics training, and my team! I was immediately welcomed and encouraged to learn about every role in my department. I also loved getting time to learn about the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum through private tours, presentations, and dedicated exploration time. Plus, the 50% discount on food and merchandise was amazing! I was able to purchase books for myself and to give to friends.

What I wish was different

I would have loved to work more closely with other interns. I also wish there was more of an intern curriculum so I could have more distinct projects to work on.

Advice

Take advantage of all of the learning resources. There are so many opportunties for spiritual growth at AiG!

Graphic Design Embark Intern

June - August 2023 • Petersburg, KY

What I liked

As a Graphic Design intern in the Embark program, I had the opportunity to learn from incredibly passionate and talented designers all with the focus of glorifying the Lord in everything we produce. I received training in many design focuses such as marketing, branding, print, and curriculum design. My team was welcoming and always encouraged me to ask questions to learn and push myself as a designer.

What I wish was different

I wish I had an opportunity to work alongside the web design team.

Advice

Embark Internship is an amazing opportunity for students who desire to grow both professionally and spiritually. The people at AiG genuinely care about you as a person, your growth, and doing a job well.

Human Resources Internship

May - August 2019 • Williamstown, KY

What I liked

Answers in Genesis was a Christian based organization that is in charge of the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum. I liked that they supported my beliefs and the community was extremely welcoming. I wouldn't mind going back and working in such an inviting atmosphere. I had a lot of hands on experience in the HR field, even had a company laptop and a small office in the life size ark. There was a women's Bible study every Friday morning that the head of the HR department put on, which I enjoyed getting into the word with wise women. The HR employees were willing to help me with whatever I needed and provided a great experience and working atmosphere.

What I wish was different

At a point in the internship, there was a stagnant spot where I was not learning much. Due to AiG just starting their internship program, I was kind of the guinea pig. I wish there was a list of requirements to teach me before I left. I also would have enjoyed even more hands on teaching, but I am happy with what I received.

Advice

My advice would be to not get caught up in the specifics of the internship. Meaning, you're only focus should not be getting the work done, but creating friendships and connections along the way. I was able to make several friendship with other employees, due to the fact that I was open to new experiences. I didn't hide behind my work, but engaged with the community around me.
