I had the opportunity to use my skills from school in a real research project that affected the world in a meaningful way. My supervisor was very flexible and helpful. The atmosphere and community at the lab was great, and I made very meaningful and lasting relationships with the other interns, students, and faculty there. We also had professional development opportunities, which were very helpful in letting the interns learn more about their fields of study.

Make sure you are familiar and fluent in the purpose of your work/research in the context to the real world. You should know why your efforts matter to the rest of the world.
